The Billable / support

THE BILLABLE SUPPORT.

The Billable is in development by Dustoff Designs LLC and is not yet available on the App Store. The guidance below covers local tools and the optional iCloud recovery workflow included in submitted version 1.0 (build 31).

A personal time ledger for iPhone and iPad: record a matter, describe the work, enter hours or a start–end range, and keep optional notes and an activity code. Review entries in the Ledger and mark them after copying them to your firm’s timecard. The app does not submit entries to a firm or calculate dollar amounts.

Contact The Billable support

This opens the existing website form with The Billable in the message. Requests go to the private business inbox for manual review. Keep the request reference shown after submission. No response time or automatic email notification is promised.

Record and review time

On Record Time, enter Matter and Description of work. Add Notes and separate optional Task and Activity codes. Search by code or description; Settings → Task & activity codes lets you add codes required by your firm or client. The original defaults include 29 ABA task codes and 11 activity codes; existing codes are kept as entered. Enter hours such as 1.5, or a start–end range such as 1000–1200, and review the displayed interpretation before saving. Use the timer when you prefer to measure work as you go. New time is recorded exactly rather than rounded to six-minute increments.

The Ledger shows recent entries with day and month totals. Time History starts with collapsed months and visible totals; tap a month to expand its dated entries within the scrolling window. Tap an entry to review or correct it. The Entered checkbox is your own marker that you have copied the time into another system.

Add hours worked earlier this year

On a new installation, after you set monthly and annual targets, The Billable asks whether you want to add billable hours worked earlier in the current year. Choose Not now to continue without them. Existing users are not interrupted by this prompt; add or edit that year’s starting total later under Settings → Time & targets.

Starting hours contribute to Annual progress only. They do not change monthly totals or create individual time entries. Each year has its own total: a new year does not carry the previous year’s starting hours forward. Earlier years’ totals remain available for historical annual exports.

Export a time sheet

In Settings → Export, select Monthly, Weekly, Annual or All time, then choose CSV, Excel, PDF or Word. Annual and all-time files separately label earlier annual starting hours; those totals are not presented as time entries. Use the system share sheet to save or send the file. Check the destination before sharing confidential matter information. These time sheets are not complete-workspace backups.

Save a complete workspace

Choose Settings → Manage backup → Save complete workspace to make a JSON recovery file containing your records, task and activity code catalogs, goals, settings and saved timer/draft state. A running timer is frozen in the exported copy. Choose a secure destination: the JSON may contain confidential matter details and is not separately password-encrypted.

Restore from a saved file

  1. Open Settings → Manage backup → Restore from file.
  2. Select a complete-workspace JSON file in Files.
  3. Review the entry count and replacement warning carefully before confirming. Restore replaces the current workspace; it is not a merge.
  4. The app saves a local safety copy of the current workspace before replacement. After restoring, check your entries and settings.

Optional iCloud recovery

The submitted build includes opt-in complete-workspace backup in your private iCloud storage. Local time entry and export work offline without it. Manage backup shows availability, the last read-back-verified copy and pending changes. Automatic backup depends on the app running and an available iCloud account, network and sufficient storage. Use the same iCloud account to access existing copies. This is backup and recovery, not live cross-device synchronization; a developer-operated server does not receive your time entries.

The cloud controls let you review a copy before confirming replacement, save an individual copy as JSON, or confirm deletion of selected or all cloud copies without removing local time entries. Deleting the latest or all copies turns automatic backup off. Keep a separate exported copy of important records.

These instructions describe the submitted build, not a public App Store release. Continue to keep secure, separate recovery files of important records.

Report an issue safely

Include the app version, device model, iOS or iPadOS version, affected screen, steps to reproduce, and what you expected. Use fictional examples. Omit client names, matter details, time-sheet exports, passwords and payment information. Do not upload confidential records unless an appropriate, agreed method is established.

The Billable is a recordkeeping aid. Your firm’s policies govern official time entry and handling of client-confidential material.
