APP SUPPORT.

Help with APART: Flight Logbook by Dustoff Designs LLC. Hours, Currency & Evaluations.

APART: Flight Logbook is available for iPhone and iPad. View APART on the App Store.

Automatic iCloud backup is optional and strongly recommended when available. It uses your Apple Account’s iCloud Drive documents, not CloudKit. Keep a separate manual backup of important records.

Get started

Import detailed CAFRS flight history

  1. Save the detailed CAFRS FlightData XLSX attachment to Files. In Flight history, select your profile and training year, then choose Import CAFRS flight data. Use a file smaller than 10 MB; a −12 summary or schedule is a different format.
  2. Choose your name and confirm aircraft or simulator mappings. Review unfamiliar condition and duty codes instead of assuming a match.
  3. Review candidate flights, totals and skipped entries, then select and confirm the entries to save. Check changed records or possible duplicates in your logbook. Flights covered by a starting-hours balance remain in history without adding those hours again.

CAFRS processing is local. APART saves only the selected, confirmed flights, not the workbook or government identity fields. The original attachment stays in Files. Import does not record evaluation results, task completions or qualifying currency dates. Review the imported time and condition details against your source records.

Review a flight schedule

  1. Save an authorized schedule attachment to Files. In Schedule, choose Import flight schedule and enter your last name as printed. Add an optional first name or initial when names are shared.
  2. Choose a PDF, Word DOCX, Excel XLSX, CSV/TSV or supported schedule image. For older DOC/XLS files or formula-based schedules, export a PDF first. Check the numeric date order when the schedule uses ambiguous dates.
  3. Review each possible match and correct its name match, date, departure and any assigned duty before confirming and saving. A possible match is not a confirmed assignment. Published times are not converted between time zones.
  4. For a revision, review which previous flight to replace. A missing row is not an automatic cancellation. If import does not match reliably, add the date and departure manually and verify against the latest unit schedule.

Document reading and PDF/image text recognition take place on the device. APART keeps only the personal flights you review and save, not the full imported schedule, other crew records or extracted page text. Imported documents and unsaved review data are discarded; the original attachment remains in Files, Mail or its provider. Choosing a cloud-stored file may cause that provider to download it. Supported formats do not guarantee that every layout can be recognized correctly.

Scheduled flights stay separate from your logbook and do not add flight hours or qualification credit. APART does not add events to Apple Calendar.

Unknown currency or unexpected totals

Each aircraft selected in Profile has its own row under Dashboard → Currency. Open a row to record an established qualifying date or completed restoration and review its editable rule. For NVG, choose Set up currency and enter your unit’s interval and required actions. No unit reference entry is needed. An ordinary logged flight does not automatically establish or restore this currency.

For other rolling qualifications or tasks, choose Settings → Currency → Custom currencies → Add currency, or Add or manage currencies on Dashboard. Enter a name, days valid and optional last completed date; choose All aircraft or one aircraft. If assigned, add a later refresher threshold from the same date. Turning tracking off preserves history. Custom currencies carry across APART years and are included in complete manual and iCloud backups, not flight-log CSV files.

Hoist is an optional assignment offered for H-60, CH-47 and UH-72. Select Hoist assignment in Profile only when assigned; choosing an aircraft never enables it by itself. Then open Hoist currency and enter the last live hoist date, or use Add later. Saving a flight with the Live hoist task updates that date; editing or removing the task or deleting the flight recalculates it.

The app’s hoist defaults are 120 days for currency/PFE and 180 days for refresher training; existing custom rules remain unchanged. Aircraft and NVG rules stay user-configured. Verify applicable requirements and restoration with your unit, and review unknown or unconfigured results before treating yourself as current.

When investigating totals, check the training year, period, aircraft, crew role, mode, duty and starting-hours cutoff. Dashboard uses the primary aircraft; Flight history can include other aircraft. Optional crew-station allocations and eligible simulator portions require explicit entry and do not add to total logged hours. Generic simulator time does not automatically meet every assigned minimum; verify eligibility and restoration requirements with your unit.

Share a flight log or closeout report

APART removes its temporary CSV or PDF after sharing is completed or dismissed, and clears interrupted temporary exports on the next launch. Copies you save or send remain with the destination you chose and cannot be recalled or deleted by APART.

Automatic iCloud backup

Automatic backup is optional and requires your explicit consent. When enabled, APART backs up your logbook after changes while the app is open. It uses your Apple Account’s iCloud Drive and iCloud storage; Apple handles transfer and storage, and Dustoff Designs does not receive these backup files. APART shows the last confirmed upload, keeps the latest three confirmed copies from this device plus one pending copy, and removes older confirmed copies from that device. Different devices keep separate copies; this is backup and restore, not live synchronization. An upload waits for iCloud and connectivity; a pending copy is not yet confirmed.

Automatic backup includes the logbook backup contents and excludes schedule entries, matching preferences and reminders. Switching Apple Accounts requires you to confirm automatic backup again. Restoring an iCloud copy turns automatic backup off; check the recovered records, then enable it again if you want. Turning backup off, resetting APART or deleting the app does not remove existing iCloud files. To remove them, use Files → iCloud Drive → APART → Backups.

Create or restore a logbook backup

  1. Open Settings → Backup, import & reset and choose Create backup. Save the APART JSON file to a trusted destination you choose.
  2. The backup contains all logbook years, flights, starting balances, profiles, notes, requirements, results/history, currency and display theme. It excludes schedule entries, schedule matching preferences and reminders.
  3. Choose Restore backup and select an APART JSON file. APART validates the file and lets you review it before asking to replace your logbook records. Replacement is not a merge; save a current backup first if you need to preserve those records. The existing schedule stays unchanged.

Recovery is also available from initial setup and the saved-data error screen. APART does not separately password-encrypt the JSON backup: it contains your records, so protect the file and any destination you choose. Automatic backup, when available, is not an APART account sync or live synchronization across devices.

Weekly manual backups are recommended. Create one in Settings → Backup, import & reset → Create backup, then choose iCloud Drive in the save window or another trusted Files location. The file includes all saved years, flights and starting balances, profile, notes, requirements, results/history, currency and display theme. It excludes the schedule, matching preferences and reminders.

The logbook and profile may also be included in device backups under your Apple settings. The protected schedule and its matching-name preferences are excluded from backups. Restoring an APART backup does not recover a deleted schedule or replace an existing one.

Reimport an APART flight-log CSV

In Flight history, choose Import APART flight-log CSV and select a CSV previously exported by APART. This is separate from the CAFRS workbook importer. Review the candidate flights and starting balances before saving. Stable duplicates are skipped, conflicting entries are held, and possible matching flights require an individual separate-flight confirmation.

A selected-year or all-year CSV can rebuild the flights and balances it contains, with starting balances and covered flights counted once. It cannot restore evaluations or complete profile settings, and cannot recover notes or columns missing from the file. Older CSVs require a profile with the correct birth month. Use the JSON backup for full logbook recovery; CSV is not a complete app backup.

Reset local APART data

Settings → Backup, import & reset offers Create backup before Reset APART. Reset requires an acknowledgement and a second, final confirmation. It clears local profiles, logbook records, requirements/results, currency, schedule, reminders and display preference, then returns to setup. If a confirmed reset is interrupted, it finishes when APART can access its protected files.

Reset cannot remove copies already exported, sent or stored in device backups. An APART JSON backup can restore its logbook records, but cannot restore the excluded schedule, matching preferences or reminders. Do not reset, delete or reinstall the app as a first troubleshooting step.

Optional reminders

Local reminders require notification permission. They ask you to open Schedule without including your name, flight time or duty. Change reminders in APART or notification permission in device Settings. Device settings can affect delivery; verify the latest schedule independently.

Report an issue safely

Include the app version/build, device model, iOS or iPadOS version, steps to reproduce the issue, and what you expected versus what happened. Use a fictional or anonymized example. Remove personal identifiers and operational details from screenshots; do not send real full crew schedules, sensitive records or passwords.

This support channel is not for emergencies or time-critical operational decisions. Verify requirements, currency, credit and assignments against your unit plan and official records. We do not promise a response time.
